Getting its start in the Highlands of Scotland and eventually branching out to various locations across the globe, golf is now one of the biggest sports in existence, enjoyed by millions of people. If you’re one of the millions, you may be looking at a few ways to get better at the game. Try these tips on for size.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to make sure that you do not even attempt to play a round of golf on a course until you are at least competent at hitting the ball. This is important because you will save yourself much frustration and embarrassment by doing so.

Always warm up before beginning a game of golf. Golf is an enjoyable sport but it can also be very stressful on the body, especially the back, arms and legs. If you stretch prior to playing you will decrease the chance of getting injured. Stretching will also limber you up, which helps your swing.

Triangulate your legs to your shoulders when you swing to make better contact with the ball. Just as how you hold the club is important, squaring your body up offers a likewise important factor in the outcome of your shot. When you are lopsided in either direction, it will skew your shot to favor that direction.

When you are golfing and you find yourself stuck in a sand trap make sure that you hit the ball with the same force that you would use to throw a handful of sand out onto the green from wherever you are positioned. This will ensure you will get out!

Golfing can be great unless you forget to check the wind and weather conditions. By checking what the course conditions will be like before hand you can save yourself lots of headaches and plan which way to take your swing. If it’s going to be raining that would be nice to know as well so you don’t go all the way out there for no reason!

Turn your hips properly. To get your swing started, turn your hips to the right. You will notice that the weight shifts onto your back leg. Once you get to the back of the swing, move your hips in the other direction. The weight will then shift onto your left leg and you will be properly prepared to hit the golf ball.

A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to slow down your back swing and shorten its length if you are having problems with accuracy. Your back swing is only in existence to put your swing in the right position. Be sure to not let it mess up your entire stroke.

What you’ve learned by reading the tips above is that there are no magical, instantly-working tactics you can apply to go from 16 over to 4 under in one round. It just doesn’t work like that. But if you can implement these tips and work on your overall game, you can begin to experience what it’s like to be a good golfer.
